Happy holidays from your team at Port Moody Health

By Dr. Sharon Gurm BSc, ND, Naturopathic Physician, Clinic Founder & Clinical Director

In this lecture, Dr. Gurm will discuss current research and trends in risk factors, incidence rates and the impact of screening in prevention and early detection of breast cancer. Material presented will be based on current evidence for various screening tools (including newer technology) and the value of other tests that can provide insight about a woman’s overall health, breast-specific health and risk for breast cancer.

Attendees will learn valuable information to assist in making personalized screening decisions with their physicians and learn the importance of assessing breast (and overall) health using a comprehensive approach that includes hormone and nutritional evaluations, genetic testing and other useful biomarkers.

Dr. Gurm will also speak on how to successfully and safely engage in an integrative approach to cancer care and how patients can navigate the uneven waters of a divided health care system. Use of various evidence-informed therapies will be discussed, with a specific focus on optimizing breast cancer outcomes, improving tolerability of contemporary treatments and preventing recurrence.
