PORT MOODY HEALTH - RED LIGHT THERAPY

Red light therapy (RLT) is a therapeutic treatment that that uses red low-level wavelengths of light or or near-infrared light to treat health concerns such as damaged muscle tissue, chronic pain, sports injuries, and can help other parts of your body to heal.

Red Light Therapy is also known as:

You may have heard of red light therapy (RLT) by its other names, which include:

  • Photobiomodulation (PBM)
  • Low level light therapy (LLLT)
  • Cold laser therapy
  • Soft laser therapy
  • Biostimulation
  • Photonic stimulation
  • Low-power laser therapy (LPLT)

How does red light therapy work?

Red light is thought to work by producing a biochemical effect in cells that help to strengthen the mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell, which is where the cells energy is created). The energy-carrying molecule found in the cells of all living things is called ATP (adenosine triphosphate). By increasing the function of the mitochondria using red light therapy, a cell can make more ATP. In turn helping the cells to function more efficiently, repair damage and restore themselves.

NovoTHOR®

NovoTHOR® is the professional device of choice for professional sports teams (Toronto Raptors, Golden State Warriors), Olympic athletes, and the US Special Forces.

NovoTHOR is intended to be used for:

  • Improved muscle performance
  • Restoration of motion to joints

  • Relaxation of muscles and relief from muscle spasm
  • Temporary relief of minor muscle and joint aches, pain and stiffness
  • Temporary relief of minor pain and stiffness associated with arthritis
  • To temporarily increase blood circulation
  • Adjunct to obesity as part of a diet and exercise program

Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT)

Photobiomodulation, or PBM, is the use of near Infrared (nIR) light to stimulate cellular repair and blood flow in tissues.

WHAT CONDITIONS BENEFIT FROM PBM?

Some conditions that have been researched and shown improvement with PBM include:• Non-healing wounds (such as diabetic wounds)
• Infections
• Dental infections
• Fibromyalgia pain (and pain in general)
• Arthritis
• Neurodegenerative conditions (such as Parkinson’s, MS, Alzheimer’s, stroke, concussion)
• Depression
• Fractures (to speed healing)
• Surgical healing times and reduction of complications
• Neuropathy
• Hair loss
• Edema
