[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Ashwagandha is an Ayurvedic herb that’s usage dates far back in time and spans a wide variety of health conditions. The research has been slowly catching up to support its use for mood, quality of life and reduction of inflammation– all of benefit in the cancer population.
The American Society of Clinical Oncology posted an article by Dr. Gary Deng MD PhD regarding the use of Ashwagandha in the cancer setting. In patients with breast cancer, 2g of Ashwagandha dosed every 8 hours was seen to improve quality of life measures, and reduce chemotherapy-induced fatigue. In addition, its ability to suppress pro-inflammatory markers allows this herb to exhibit cancer fighting properties in lung, colon and breast cancer cell lines. Lastly, Ashwagandha has demonstrated the ability to enhance the effect of radiation therapy in rodent models. Although more clinical trials are warranted, the preliminary evidence is promising to suggest holistic benefit of this ancient herb on the health of an individual undergoing cancer treatment.
