Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a results driven, aesthetic and therapeutic injectable neuromodulator which is clinically proven to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) and wrinkles in adults. Giving your skin a fresh, natural and rested appearance.

Is Xeomin® the same as Botox?

Xeomin® is both a Health Canada and FDA approved product with clinically proven results.
The differences being that Xeomin® is a purer form and doesn’t contain the complexing protein which Botox does. Xeomin® is also said to have longer lasting results up to 4-5months.

How does it work?

When you squint or frown, the muscles between your eyebrows and around the eyes contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent frown lines. Botulinum toxin type A – the active ingredient in Xeomin® – acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibres from contracting. By reducing these contractions, Xeomin® can temporarily reduce the line.

Botox® is an internationally renowned brand, approved by the FDA for the treatment of lines and wrinkles for a fresher, younger, natural look as well as able to treat certain muscular conditions, migraines, excessive sweating and more.

How does it work?

Botox works by preventing signals from the nerve cells reaching muscles, sending them into a state of paralysis

When Botox is injected it prevents the release of acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter), preventing the muscle cells from contracting.

Is there a difference between Xeomin® and Botox®?

The main difference between Xeomin® and Botox® is that Xeomin® contains just one ingredient: botulinum toxin A and contains no additives, making it a purer form of the injectable.

What should I tell my doctor before treatment?

Before receiving treatment, you should tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, including whether you are pregnant and whether you have a disease that affects your muscles and nerves, have allergies to any botulinum toxin product, or have experienced any side effects from any other botulinum toxin in the past. In addition, tell your doctor about your medical history and all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Especially tell your doctor if you have received any other botulinum toxin product in the last four months or in the past. Be sure your doctor knows exactly which product(s) you received and when you received them.

Treatment typically takes 10-30minutes depending on the surface area. No anesthesia is required; however, your physician may use a topical anesthetic or cold pack to reduce any discomfort.

Is there any downtime?

There is no downtime after treatment, however for the best results it is recommended that you do not partake in any intensive exercise for at least one hour afterwards, to give the solution time to settle.

It it also recommended that you do not wash, massage or lay on the treated area immediately as this may disperse the product to other areas giving varying results.

When can I expect to see results?

You may begin to see visible smoothing with Botox® within 24-72 hours after injection and as early as 3-4 days after for Xeomin®.

Peak effect is usually seen 10-14 days post treatment. Duration of the effect is variable. On average effects last 3-4 months; some patients find the results last even longer.
They also have a prophylactic effect, which means if you can inactivate a muscle before it pulls the skin, it will prevent any new lines or wrinkles from appearing or getting worse.

I’m concerned about looking plastic or overdone.

This a common concern among individuals considering an in-office treatment. Our goal is to give a fresh, youthful and rejuvenated appearance to your skin and complexion. We don’t believe you should look as though you’ve “had work done”.

The physician has over 13 years of experience in injection techniques and facial anatomy. During your complimentary consultation, she will have a detailed discussion with you about your concerns and will help you determine the best options to achieve your goals.
